The Sensibility of Senior Fitness


Over the course of my career, I have worked with many clients who are over the age of 65. My oldest client is 82 years old. I marvel at the spirit and attitude these wonderful people have. Not only their attitude towards fitness, but also their attitude towards life. Every one of them has a plan and purpose for their life. Their days and nights are planned with various and sundry ≠events and they look forward to each event with the zeal of a high school senior.

They also realize that they need to be in better physical condition to carry out these activities. They look forward to their personal training sessions and are eager to achieve results. If I could bottle this attitude toward fitness and sell it, the rate of obesity and chronic illness in this country would sharply decline.

One of the common denominators of my youthful minded, senior clients is that they have participated in some sort of fitness activity for most of their lives. They didn’t wait until retirement to start working out. This is the message that I want to get across to America.

If you don’t start to workout or to take up a moderately intense physical activity while you are young, you will pay for it when you are older. You will not only pay for it physically but financially as well. Prescriptions, co-pays, walkers and wheelchairs will surely become a reoccurring line item on your balance sheet.

I urge you to let this article be a wake up call. Develop a new habit that will pay you untold fortune. Whether it is joining a gym, hiring a personal trainer, starting a mall walkers group or weekly yard work, take care of your body now and it will take care of you later.
