THE TEN MINUTE WORKOUT
By Jeffrey Phillips
" I really want to get in better shape, but I just don’t have the time!"..If I had a dollar for every time I heard that …I wouldn’t be writing this article. I had be in Vegas with a handle or pair of dice in my hand.
When talking to prospective clients I too often hear the above. My response is that if you are seriously wanting to change your level of fitness, you will make working out a non negotiable portion of your life. You know, like bathing or doing your nails or shopping the malls or upgrading to PS3or… the list goes on of things that we, no matter how busy we are, make time for.
When a few clients finally convinced me that they are stretched thin and their time is extremely limited I devised a ten(10) minute workout that can provide increases to fitness and energy levels and be a starting point when the busy schedule someday subsides.
10 minute workout
1min- jumping jacks (or jump rope or jogging in place)
30 sec- rest
1min- alternating leg dynamic lunges (start with feet together, put left foot forward, lunge push off left foot back to start and then right leg )
30 sec-rest
1 min- repeat lunges
30 sec- rest
1min- dumbbell military press( with 5-8lbs)
1min- jumping jacks(see above)
30 sec- rest
1min- push ups ( pause during the set if you have to, but only for a few seconds)
1min crunches
1 min tubing rows or pull downs (rows and pulldowns can be performed seated or standing or while sitting on a stability ball
(if no rest is indicated then no rest is taken)
In the world of fitness, the idiom," something is better then nothing" rings true. Getting some form of physical activity and resistance training 3-5 days a week will, at minimum, enhance your mental well being, increase your muscle tone, peak your energy level, and give you a natural boost that coffee just cant rival.
So put away your excuses and take ten (10) minutes a day to enhance your quality of life.
